Get emails pushed on your sony ericsson k550

I am completely satisfied with my Sony Ericsson and in the text that follows , u will learn more on how to set up push mail on ur k550i using your gmail account .

Push mail is a service offered by many email providers that allows users to get a e-mail right in their cell phones as soon as it is recieved .

Earlier this was restricted to blackberries .
Then , u must have read ads of airtel and vodafone . These two service providers give u push mail service on "any gprs phone" . This service costs rs 199/-.

But if you are using a sony ericsson phone , u can get emails in your phone as soon as it arrives on the server ( gmail server in case of our workshop )
Before we start with the actual workshop , let me tell you a couple of things . When u enable push mail , u will constantly see the earth symbol at the top of your phone . which means your phone is constantly connected to the internet . So , do not use push mail , if you are using 10paisa/ 10 kb plan . That will be very expensive , in fact it will be foolish to use push mail in that case.


Also one more thing , i use airtel , and have activated airtel mobile office on my phone . This plan allows unlimited data transfer for rs 15/- per day . Also u can connect your phone to pc to surf on the pc . And we have an EDGE network here in navi mumbai and our good k550 supports EDGE , so i get a download speed of upto 25 kbps ususally , the max was 41 kbps.

Better still for me , i am not even being charged rs15 per day for this plan . which effectively means i am using internet for free . ( both on my pc as well as on computer ) ,
Now dont ask me how .


So lets begin on with the workshop ,
( phone : sony ericsson k550,
data plan : airtel mobile office,
email account : gmail )

1) goto message -> email ->settings -> new account
2) put the following settings for your new account
2.1)account name : whatever you like
2.2)Email alert : set anything , this is actually the ringtone used to alert you on email arrival .
2.3)Connect using: select your internet profile , "mobile office " in my case.
2.4)Email adress : your email adress
2.5) connection type : IMAP4
( you can use any of pop or imap , but imap is preferred , also you must enable them before using , to do so , log into your gmail account , then click on the settings tab on the upper right corner and change the settings to enable imap and pop both )

2.5)incoming server : imap.gmail.com
2.6)username : ..... your username
2.7) password : your password
2.8) outgoing server: smtp.gmail.com

Advanced settings

1) your name : the name which your recipents will see.
2)encryption : "ssl" for both incoming and outgoing servers
3) outgoing username and password : your gmail username and password
4)incoming port:993
5)outgoing port:465

If you want to manually check emails ,
check interval and push email as -: off

If you want your phone to check email mesages after certain time ( say 1 hour ) then
check interval : 1 hour , push email : off

If you want to immediately get the email on your phone as soon as someone sends it to you
checkinterval : off , push email : on
( overheads are high battery usage , continous connection to internet , so high data usage )

If you have done everything correctly , wait for the next email to be on ur phone .
